This project began as an exploration of fragile territories and their cultures, focusing on the Four Provinces (Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy, and Emilia-Romagna). Rather than being defined by administrative borders, this area is bound together by a deep cultural thread — most vividly expressed through popular musical traditions.
The book captures the essence of the region through stories, voices, and memories: oral traditions, local testimonies, and anecdotes collected in conversations with musicians, artisans, and community members. What emerges is not just a history, but a living portrait of identity.

The visual design brings this narrative to life. Inspired by the idea of a “digital attic,” archival fragments reappear in a contemporary form. A two-colour printing style creates unity among diverse visual languages, while a carefully chosen palette and hybrid typography strike a balance between tradition and modernity.
Ultimately, this project is both a document and a celebration: a way of safeguarding the intangible heritage of fragile territories and showing how design can connect communities, bridge past and present, and give new voice to cultural memory.
