The project aimed at building an IoT, a connected device useful to help children understanding and facing their fears playfully. After a careful research, my groupmates and I managed to narrow them down into three main categories: fear of darkness, fear of nightmares and loud noises.
Following this scenario, we design a digital storytelling where each of the three fears was impersonated by a monster character, the finest form of a kid’s fear: Yelly, Ronfy and Hiddy (respectively monsters of loud noises, nightmares and dark places).
To each of these bogeys, we then came up with an obvious antidote and started to think about ways that the Arduino could be implemented to solve these problems.
The solutions came pretty naturally, so we decided to design an interactive cape that helps kids understand and fight them through games and wearable sensors; last but not least, this is a tool that parents can use and manage easily in order to support theri kids in situations of distress.
